2009 Tailgating Season Kick-Off Letter |
 |
 |
 | Hi All,
We have about 10 days before the season kickoffs in Atlanta against Alabama and a little over two weeks before the first home game!
Thanks to all who made last year a great year for tailgating. I have decided to continue a suggested amount for financial contributions to the overhead costs of the tailgate (paper products, gas (propane & gas for generator), water, soda, alcohol, trailer parking fee, etc.). This DOES NOT cover the cost of the food and it is still expected that everyone will bring food to the tailgate. I am suggesting $10 per person, per game to cover all the expenses. I am also suggesting if you tailgate for all the games that an individual may contribute $50 before the season and that will cover that individual for the entire season. Some might be reluctant to pay upfront because they might miss a game but will have a family member/friend take their place. If this is the case, your substitute would not have to contribute for that game. Example: Susanna and Bryan decide to contribute $50 each for the season. Bryan is unable to make the second game, but Bryan gives his ticket to Cathy to attend the second game. Since Cathy is taking the place of Bryan, there is no need for Cathy to contribute $10 when she comes to the game. I realize this system is not perfect, especially for non-alcholic drinkers and those under 21. For those tailgaters, I am suggesting a contribution of $6 a game or $30 for the season. Please note, I do not want to exclude anyone who can not afford these costs. If you do not feel that you can afford the suggested amount, I am open to alternative arrangements (helping out a little more with the tear down or setup of the tailgate). I would be happy to discuss these options with you confidentially if you are interested. Shoot me an email or give me a call if you would like to discuss.
The feedback for the shrimp boil and fried turkey was extremely positive once again. We are scheduling frying the turkeys for the Nebraska game. The shrimp boil is being scheduled for the Miami game. For the first game against Marshall, we will plan on hamburgers and hot dogs following the game.
The BIG thing I am going to ask is some people need to help out a little more with the main dish area by both providing and also fixing during the tailgating. We can’t expect the same people to provide the main meal or larger dishes and incur those costs! That being said the fried turkeys will be a big undertaking due to the large number anticipated. If someone has fried a turkey in the past and would like to help by doing a turkey, injecting and bringing it early on that Saturday - this would be greatly appreciated. Also if someone has a turkey fryer we probably will need the turkey fryer and if you already have peanut oil great, if not we will work that out. Please let me know if you want to help out with a main meal, I will help guide you. I also would like to have some volunteers to help out with the grilling/turkey frying/shrimp boil! It’s not fair to have the same people at the grill and not be able to enjoy the tailgate!
If you would like to pay in advance, please feel free to mail checks to: Rusten Bailey 4742 Green Acres Dr. Salem, VA 24153 571-436-2065
I am asking to have people sign-up to be responsible for setting up and tearing down the tailgates. There will be a link on the webpage for this, but please let me know which game/games you will be able to help and I will put your name down. Please remember cleaning up is a part of the experience and people NEED to HELP! I personally would like to thank John, Brandice, Brian, and Derek for their help in the past on the Friday’s before the games for setting up the canopies.
The keg choice will be Miller Lite as this type keg fits the best in the kegerator. I will be providing the following alcoholic beverages: Bud Light, Coors Light, Mic Ultra, Magic Hat, Corona, Heineken, Smirnoff Ice Flavors, and Mike’s Hard Lemonade & various Flavors.
I will also be providing the following non-alcoholic beverages: Sprite, Dr. Pepper, Iced Tea, & Water Both Regular and Diet: Coke, Mountain Dew, & Pepsi
Please note that I will do my very best to have all choices of beverages under the canopy either in the party fridge or in a cooler, if you don’t see your choice, please check the refrigerator in the trailer.
I will continue using evite for keeping track of who is coming. Please remember that we need to know by the Wednesday afternoon before the game if you plan on attending.
As most of you all know, I try and make at least one new improvement to the tailgating season each year. A couple years ago we added the LCD TV in the trailer, last year we added the LCD TV under the canopy and the Honda generator, and this year there will be a small portable mister for use during the warmer tailgates. You can view a few pictures of the mister from the webpage under pictures and clicking the link for 2009 updates.
The Maryland game is away at Maryland this year, on November 14th. Like 4 years ago, I have purchased a group of tickets. I am hoping in the next week or two to send out the formal email but it will be similar to last time. After I get quotes from bus companies I will know what the approximate cost will be per person. As far as I know the tickets are in a better location than last time! We should be in the upper level of the stadium. The bus will leave from Herndon park and ride. Once I send out the official email it will be first come, first serve. Also for those who are out of town and would like to attend this game, I might be able to get a few hotel rooms at a discount. (around $60-$79 a night)
For those who are heading down to Atlanta, shoot me an email if you are interested in meeting up on Saturday. Please send me your cell phone number and let me know if you can receive a text message. I will send a text message to you once I figure out where we will be hanging out for the day.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone in the next few weeks.
Go Hokies!
